SacRT Partners with Sacramento County to Offer Systemwide Free Rides on Election Day to Help Drive the Vote
SACRAMENTO, CA – In an effort to promote civic engagement and ensure that all residents have access to voting, the Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) is partnering with Sacramento County to offer free rides systemwide on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The "Drive the Vote" initiative allows SacRT riders to travel for free on all its fixed-route buses, light rail, SmaRT Ride and SacRT GO paratransit shuttles throughout Election Day, making it easier for the community to reach polling places, ballot drop boxes, and vote centers.
“We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to make their voice heard at the polls,” said SacRT General Manager/CEO Henry Li. “By offering free rides on Election Day, we aim to remove transportation as a barrier, making it easier for residents throughout the region to access their voting locations and fulfill their civic duty.”
“It is great that SacRT and the County have once again partnered in our effort to make voting easier and more accessible to all Sacramento County voters,” said SacRT Board Chair and Sacramento County Board Chair Patrick Kennedy. “It is important that we see high voter participation and having great partnerships like SacRT offering systemwide free rides makes that goal more attainable. We appreciate their support in our effort to increase voter participation.”
The free rides will be available on all SacRT services, including:
- Light rail trains (Blue, Gold, and Green lines)
- SacRT fixed-route buses (including Folsom and Elk Grove)
- SmaRT Ride on-demand microtransit service
- SacRT GO paratransit service
To ride free, customers can just board without needing to show valid proof of fare. For more information about SacRT routes and schedules, visit sacrt.com/planyourtrip.
