Blue Line Platform Station Construction Resumes March 22nd

SacRT completed construction at Globe Station early, the station opened on Saturday, March 1, 2025. SacRT  is continuing station platform construction at Alkali Flat/La Valentina Station. During construction, the station will be closed between Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 30 2025. 

A bus bridge will be in place between Globe and Cathedral Square stations during construction.

SacRTcommenced platform construction along the Blue Line to modernize the light rail system in preparation for the new low-floor light rail vehicles.  

This project is an essential step toward enhancing accessibility and improving the rider experience. 

Construction Timeline & Rider Information:  

  • Saturday, March 22 – Sunday, March 30: A bus bridge will be in place between Globe and Cathedral Square stations for construction at Alkali Flat/La Valentina Station. This date will shift if there is rain in the forecast.  

The schedule may shift depending on weather and other factors, so we encourage riders to check SacRT’s website or download the free Alert SacRT app for the latest service updates.

Due to station platform construction at Alkali Flat/La Valentina Square Station a bus bridge (shuttle bus between stations) will be in place. 

  • Blue Line: Bus bridge Cathedral Square (10th & K / 11th & K) and Globe stations.

Rider Reminder! Riders are reminded to watch their step when traveling in Swanston Station as the platform areas have been raised eight inches to meet the height requirement of the new low-floor light rail trains. For safety reasons riders are urged to cross the stations at the ends of each platform and not in the middle of the station to avoid the raised curb.

Note: The Arden/Del Paso Station park-and-ride lot is currently closed through the end of the year, however there is still train and bus service at the station.

New Low-Floor Light Rail Service Began September 1
SacRT introduced into service the new low-floor trains on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Learn more at sacrt.com/newtrains

Folsom 15-Minute Construction Continues
SacRT is also continuing construction efforts to add a passing track to provide 15-minute service frequency to Folsom area stations. Once construction is complete, the new low-floor trains will operate on the Gold Line between Sacramento Valley Station and Historic Folsom Station.  

Blue Line Riders Reminder:
SacRT will continue to operate the high-floor trains on the Blue Line. The transition to low-floor vehicles on this line is anticipated in 2027, once the station platform construction is completed and additional light rail vehicles are purchased.
