The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) welcomes Elk Grove transit services as part of the district on Thursday, July 1, 2021. Under the annexation agreement, SacRT will provide fixed-route local, commuter and paratransit services, and maintenance operations for the City of Elk Grove.

SacRT has been operating e-tran and e-van services under a service contract with the City of Elk Grove since July 2019. As part of the agreement, service levels will be maintained or improved and there are no short-term plans to make changes to the existing bus services or fares.

“The reunion of Elk Grove with SacRT is a culmination of hard work and recognition that we are stronger united,” said SacRT General Manager/CEO Henry Li. “By integrating our services, the region will have a more connected, convenient, and equitable public transportation network that will be more resilient for the community.”

"For some riders, accessible and effective public transit is not just a convenience but a lifeline necessity," said Elk Grove City Council Member and SacRT Board Director Pat Hume. "In annexing back into the District, the City of Elk Grove and SacRT are committing to provide more seamless and efficient service not just to our riders that want it, but especially for those who need it. The reality of a one seat ride without transfers is better for all of our ridership."

To better serve residents in Elk Grove and south Sacramento, SacRT is expanding its SmaRT Ride on-demand mictrotransit service on Thursday, July 1, 2021. The new Elk Grove zone will offer the curb-to-curb on-demand shuttle service primarily between Waterman Road and Grant Line Road, with additional coverage in the Vineyard area, north of Calvine Road, as far north as Florin Road, from Elk Grove-Florin Road to Bradshaw Road, and as far north as Gerber Road, between Bradshaw Road and Excelsior Road.

SacRT is also expanding the Gerber-Calvine SmaRT Ride zone into the Florin area and will become the Florin-Gerber zone. SmaRT Ride is similar to other ride-share services where customers can use the SacRT SmaRT Ride app to request a ride that will pick up and drop off passengers within the service boundaries. Another bonus to Elk Grove transit riders, is that students/youth in grades TK through 12th can ride free with the RydeFreeRT fare-free transit program for youth. On Thursday, July 1, Elk Grove transit services will be included in the program. Learn more at rydefreert.com.

To celebrate Elk Grove transit services becoming part of the SacRT district, SacRT is offering a systemwide free ride day on Sunday, July 4, 2021. Free rides will be available on bus, light rail, SacRT GO paratransit services and Elk Grove transit services. SacRT is also offering free shuttle bus service to Elk Grove’s Salute to the Red, White, and Blue festival at Elk Grove Park on Sunday, July 4, 2021.
