Blue Line Service Disruption in April 2025

March 25, 2025 General, SacRT in Community

SacRT commenced platform construction along the Blue Line to modernize the light rail system in preparation for the new low-floor light rail vehicles. This project is an essential step toward enhancing accessibility and improving the rider experience.

There will be two more service disruptions at Globe and Alkali Flat Stations in April and May 2025. During this time, the contractor will be installing shelters at Globe Station and installing detectable warning tiles at both stations.

Construction Timeline & Rider Information:

  • Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, 2025: A bus bridge will be in place between Alkali Flat/La Valentina and Marconi/Arcade stations for construction at Globe Station.
  • Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4, 2025: A bus bridge will be in place between Globe and 11th & K stations for construction at Alkali Flat/La Valentina Station. K Street will be closed to vehicles from 8th Street to 12th Street.

These closures are expected to be the last closures for this phase of construction on the Blue Line.

Looking ahead, SacRT is preparing to enter the next stage of construction, which will include modifications to the remaining Blue Line stations and further upgrades to Gold Line stations to accommodate three-car train operations. While the project timeline is still being developed, construction is anticipated to begin in early 2026.

The schedule may shift depending on weather and other factors, so we encourage riders to check SacRT’s website or download the free Alert SacRT app for the latest service updates.

Rider Reminder! Riders are reminded to watch their step when traveling in Swanston Station as the platform areas have been raised eight inches to meet the height requirement of the new low-floor light rail trains. For safety reasons riders are urged to cross the stations at the ends of each platform and not in the middle of the station to avoid the raised curb.

Note: The Arden/Del Paso Station park-and-ride lot is currently closed through the end of the year, however there is still train and bus service at the station.

Blue Line Riders Reminder:
SacRT will continue to operate the high-floor trains on the Blue Line. The transition to low-floor vehicles on this line is anticipated in 2027, once the station platform construction is completed and additional light rail vehicles are purchased.
