The
Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) TransitAction Awards
for transit excellence will be presented during the Sacramento
Metro Chamber’s 2012 State of RT Breakfast on Friday, March 23
at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento. These annual awards recognize
efforts in support of transit and honor selected
nominees that have made a significant and positive impact to
public transit in the Sacramento region.
The
TransitAction Awards offer an opportunity to highlight
incredible contributions, and recipients will be recognized
among elected officials, business leaders, community members and
transit advocates in the Sacramento region.
RT is
now calling for nominations. Nominations for the TransitAction
Awards can be submitted for the following categories:

Business of the Year
-
Organization/Agency of the Year
-
Transit Oriented Development of the Year
-
Elected Official of the Year
-
Individual/Transit Advocate of the Year
All nominations must be submitted no later than
Friday, February 10, 2012.
Categories &
Criteria
The
five award categories are as follows:
Business of the Year
– A private-sector company that champions public transit in
the Sacramento region and supports public transit programs that
help improve mobility, relieve traffic congestion and promote
transit ridership. The selected company may play a role in the
planning, design or construction of transit-related projects in
the Sacramento region.
Organization/Agency of the Year
– A public-sector organization/agency that champions for public
transit in the Sacramento region and supports public transit
programs that help improve mobility, relieve traffic congestion
and promote transit ridership. The selected organization/agency
may play a role in the planning, design or construction of
transit-related projects in the Sacramento region.
Transit Oriented Development of the Year
– A
completed
mixed-use residential or
commercial development designed to maximize access to
public transit in the
Sacramento region.
The selected
development may demonstrate support for public transit by
providing transit-related programs and/or transit subsidies to
tenants.
Elected Official of the Year
– An elected official who has contributed to the public
transportation industry through leadership, policy, and/or
legislative initiative. This individual is seen as a champion of
transit and is a constant advocate for increasing investment in
public transit in the Sacramento region.
Individual/Transit Advocate of the Year
– An individual who
has shown
tireless commitment to the promotion and support of
public transit in the Sacramento region. This individual
advocates for improved public transit services and programs.
