Between 2001 and 2003, RT, in cooperation with the FTA, performed an Alternatives Analysis to evaluate future transit improvements in the corridor in Sacramento. Consistent with the FTA’s New Starts guidelines, the Alternatives Analysis process was a coordinated effort between RT, members of the public, public agencies and other stakeholders with numerous opportunities for input at each stage of the planning process.
The Alternatives Analysis report compared and evaluated alternative transit technologies and alignments through the DNA Corridor. The Alternatives Analysis technical analysis and associated public review and responses were designed to support and encourage the process for adopting an LPA to be carried forward for a full environmental review.
In 2003, the RT Board considered the Alternatives Analysis results and chose as the LPA light rail extension along an alignment generally following 7th Street and Truxel Road.
